The Westside Wine Trail and the lake, from your own front door

Lots of places sell a wine-country lifestyle. On the Westside it's literal: the vineyards run down the slopes of Mount Boucherie to within a few hundred metres of subdivisions, and Boucherie Road is designated by the City as its "Wine Route". If you live in Lakeview Heights or along Boucherie, a tasting room is a bike ride away. If you live anywhere else in West Kelowna, it's a short drive.

The winery that put the Okanagan on the map

Mission Hill Family Estate is the Westside's best-known landmark. Founded in 1966, it was an abandoned estate when Anthony von Mandl bought it in 1981. Its 1992 Chardonnay was named "Best Chardonnay" at the 1994 International Wine & Spirit Competition, the first overseas recognition for an Okanagan winery, and a turning point for the valley's reputation. Between 1996 and 2002 architects Olson Kundig rebuilt the estate for about $35 million. The 12-storey, 85-foot bell tower holds four bells cast by Fonderie Paccard, the foundry behind the bells of Sacré-Cœur in Paris (Wikipedia).

The first overseas award for an Okanagan winery went to a Westside Chardonnay, in 1994.

Mission Hill Family Estate

Mount Boucherie itself is the eroded core of a volcano formed nearly 60 million years ago, now 417 metres above the lake (Wikipedia). The regional park on its slopes is reached from Eain Lamont Park, and it's a popular short, steep hike between winery visits.

Beaches, docks and waterfront parks

West Kelowna has a long public shoreline. From Visit Westside's beach and park listings:

• Gellatly Bay Waterfront: a long stretch of public lakefront, with a multi-use path, the CNR Wharf Aquatic Park, a boat launch and the Gellatly Dog Beach.
• Marina Park: a fenced, family-friendly beach. It had a swimming advisory in August 2026, later lifted; check Interior Health advisories in summer.
• Willow Beach and Rotary Beach.
• Pebble Beach at the end of Whitworth Road.
• Pritchard Park and Osprey Park along the Boucherie shore.
• Casa Loma Dock Park: an accessible dock by the bridge.
• Kalamoir Regional Park: shoreline trails. A wildfire burned here in June 2026; council credited earlier mitigation work by the Regional District and Friends of Kalamoir Park with limiting its spread.

Neighbourhood parks round it out: Anders Park (tennis, pickleball), Eain Lamont Park (the route up Mount Boucherie), Memorial Park and its amphitheatre, Rose Meadow Park, and Westbank Centre Park with the Kids Care Spray Park and the inclusive Julia's Junction playground.
